The DO’s and DOMES!

antidepressants“One pill, two pill, three pill, four, five pill, six pill, seven pill, floor.” – Anon

A few weeks ago I had a conversation with a young lady. During the conversation she started to peel back the cornhusks of her personal life and revealed certain things to me that most individuals don’t know about her. She expressed her immense desire to go to a concert so that she can hang out with her friends, drink, and do drugs. Then she went to state “If I’m not high on domes then I’m home sleeping!” Now for those that don’t have a master’s degree in street slang, domes are the street name for the drug Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD). LSD is known for its psychological effects that include altered thinking processes, synesthesia, an altered sense of time and spiritual experiences. During the conversation, I attempted to open her eyes to the underlying truth that her life is valuable and she shouldn’t waste it chasing after an insignificant and temporary induced high.

“What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us.” – Anon

Our lives are important and we exist to fulfill a greater purpose. Each day we are blessed to inhale the sweet nectar that is air, we are given another opportunity to make a difference. What we do next, and the choices we make are up to us. I have no clue if my conversation added to the account stored in her memory banks. I hope it did.

However, there’s a maxim that states, “you can lead a camel to water but you can’t make it drink”.

Habit@ for Humanity

We’ve all at one point or another acquired a behavioral pattern that has become almost involuntary. We perform these actions with pin point precision and accuracy. Unfortunately, we have the tendency to develop a few bad habits as we wake board along life’s river. They may come in the irksome or intrusive form of nail biting, knuckle cracking, cuticle picking, chronic coughing, or throat clearing.

“Bad habits are like a comfortable bed, easy to get into, but hard to get out of.” – Anon

I too have my share of bad habits. During my high school years I started cracking my knuckles. I got to the point where I would crack my knuckles unconsciously. I adopted an addict-like dependency on daily hits that came in the form of knuckle cracking. I took me a few years but I was able to free myself from the wretched clutch of my knuckle cracking habit. (Now I need to work on my back and neck cracking habit)

What bad habits do you need to make a greater effort to eradicate?

Do you have the habit of tearing others down with your sharp axe-like words? Do you struggle with the need to embellish in order to paint the portrait of your life using watercolors more appeasing to the eyes of others? Are you one to “pass the buck” and place blame one everyone but yourself? Do you adopt the negative side of a situation due to a fear of disappointment?

“First we form habits, then they form us. Conquer your bad habits, or they’ll eventually conquer you.” – Dr. Rob Gilbert

Don’t miss the opportunity to snag your golden egg of success because your beanstalk of life experienced growth stunted by bad habits!
